Retirement with children

Team Name:
Student crew

This project idea is an app, where pensioners could offer their free time for families looking for babysitting. That way the pensioners spend their time more actively, they can get some extra income and families can resolve their problem with children other way than by hiring a nanny or an au pair.

HubGap is for innovative Australians who are interested in tracking the changes in innovation within Australia or their State or Territory. The innovation search tool gathers data from multiple data sets to provide information about patents, funding expenditure/opportunities, industry employment, Digital Champions and start up events and activities throughout Australia. The website provides the client with key information relating to their industry and location via the search or optional social media feeds.

The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection provide a feed of Air Quality sensors across Brisbane, but it takes a fair bit of effort to go look at this every day before you leave home.

This information is particularily relevant to people with sinusitis, allergies or are asthmatic as knowing how bad the air quality is means you can adjust your daily routine to cope, including taking an anti-histamine.

Discover your city

Team Name:
Crafty Hackers

The idea was to develop a mobile app to assist in discovering the hidden gems within a local council or city area.

Much like how the new Pokemon GO game has stops that you can check in at that correlate to real life places, the Discovery Your City app would include historically and culturally significant locations within the the specified area. Additionally, it would have provision for residents to submit their own hidden gems to be added to the program, such as great restaurants or social gathering places.

But thankfully, choosing where to situate your new business just got easier with PedEstimate.

Fun with Fossils

Ammonite bot
Team Name:
Anna

This project remixes QLD Museum Ecosciences 3D models of Fossils - Ammonites and Muttaburrasaurus - for 3D printing for use in educational projects, jewelry and crafts.

I am crew for the Brisbane Maker Node so I am not eligible for local prizes.

I edited and 3D printed these models for my own amusement during quiet times at GovHack and made beads, light up jewelry and brush bots.

Muttaburratorus is a remix of a torus + muttaburrasaurus skull for use in jewelry.

Fossil Replication

3d scanning can make objects available to people that they may never be able to inspect in person. Fossils and dinosaur bones are freely available as virtual relics. But humans are tactile, and a model on a computer screen doesn't have the same emotional response as handling a physical object does. 3d printers are now readily available, and are ideal for producing real objects that can provide that tactile response.
