"Drive Community Engagement and Hope in Visualizing the FUTURE."
The purpose of our project is to drive community engagement and hope in visualising the future by way of an app that incorporates augmented reality to enable an individual to visualise the structure or object before it is physically built. The idea is the marriage of a technology and the rebuilt of the Christchurch after the earthquakes. Our data is taken from Christchurch City Council, Christchuch 3D models and The identity of Christchurch.
The Councils currently send leaflets and flyers and publish plans on their website about the development. These channels do not engage the community to provide feedback easily. It also does not allow an individual to visualise the plan clearly, where plans are shown in 2D. The end result is that feedback is only given after the development is completed, which causes frustration on both sides.
With this current version of our app futurEYES, an individual will receive an email with a hyperlink from the Council, which when scanned using the app will pop up the structure in augmented reality. This enables the individual to visualise in 3D and in 360 degrees. The person can then rate and provide feedback on the development for the council submission period. Reviews from other people are always available and the person can like, share and comment on the review.
Future enhancements can include opening the app to anyone globally with different ways of access (geo-location or push notifications based on user preferences), the ability to add historical facts to inform/educate the local or tourist, take “selfies” with the future development in the photo background. Assuming models are available globally, anyone will be able to visualise future development in different countries. It could be possible to ask the public to vote for the development of their choice too. The app can be set up at bus stops, kiosks in malls and public areas for the community to use.
Our value proposition to drive engagement of the general public and allow earlier visualisation of a development clearly to get feedback early. It will give hope to those after a disaster to be able to visualise the re-development of the disaster area. FuturEYES is the app to visualise the future!
